i have a few oldies floating around my layout but no pics handy
i have the tyco Canadian Set, loco, box car and caboose
3 or 4 athearns with the metal trucks. dd40 dual motor with flywheels, b&o gp 30, sw1 i think b&o
lima 4 wheel switcher, lionel made in hong kong gp 30, and my first locl f unit bachmann cnr 9162 i got it in 1982 i think

i also have the following I use to collect bachmann
an older bachmann gp 30 with the metal frame and motor mounted in the center, the body is beaten up but still pulls well, loud but that is expected.
i have one of every motor system they put out now for non steam
pan cake, center mounted motor, plus system and the spectrum style.
sometime the old stuff is just plain fun to run.

By golly...is that a WORKING Baker coupler on that thang? Whit Towers and John Allen would be pleased. :thumb:

I have a few sets of those and figured I'd use them on a loco of that era.
I'm going to fit some of my wood and cardboard cars with them also to go with this loco.

Stuart,
Those old Bachmann 8wheel drive locos can be nice runners by remotoring and fine tuning the drivetrain. The biggest noise maker is the coupling from the motor to the worm shafts.
I reworked an old Bachmann 8wheel drive F9 for my son and it's a real sweet running loco.
Rebuilding and running the oldies is fun. On the other hand it also helps you appreciate the recent advances in the hobby.

Amen to that!
I have some of those "oldies", and the new locos are just sooo nice in comparison. Can motors, and new or reworked gearing does help the "oldies" survive alongside the new stuff.

Here's an old Tyco 2-4-2 converted to an 0-4-2 sometime in the '60s because I could never keep the lead truck on the tracks!

Gee Tom, That sure looks like an Athearn Little Monster to me.

It could very well be. It was forty five years ago and my memory ain't what it used to be. sign1

I finally found one and got it running.
I had to fabricate a geared insulated axle for it and do some repairs on the shell.
I still need to find some missing parts (air tanks, brake shoes and a light bulb bracket), but it is in running order.
