Hello Fellow Modelers

I've been building model kits for 40+ years and have built from every category over that time span. I remember building the BIG U.S.S. Enterprise aircraft carrier as a teenager. Also, the big 1/8 scale IROC Z28, Corvette Sting Ray, Mercedes Gullwing and Golden T Street Rod kits that came with that little package of Turtle Wax to polish the bodies with.

CARS:
I build 1/24 & 1/25 American muscle cars, Tom Daniel designs, and Tamiya and Revell Germany DTM and GT series with a Ferrari or Lamborghini thrown in to break up the V-8 builds. All of my car bodies are painted with Testors spray and on occasion Krylon Fusion but the Krylon takes more work to get a nice, glossy finish. Everything else is painted by hand using Testors and Tamiya paints. Everything is spray can as I don't have an airbrush.

Also, due to space restrictions, I build 1/144 aircraft because I can paint them by hand and get a good result. The only drawback is that some parts are tiny and fragile and do not cooperate with large fingers. I have a Revell C-17A in 1/144 and a handful of 1/72 aircraft waiting to be built.

The USN "Sundowners" and "Jolly Rogers" are my favorites aircraft markings to build.
I mostly build straight from the box, detailing only with painting. This way is the most fun for me. I used to spend a lot of time super detailing with wire, solder, Verlinden detail sets and photo-etched parts but no longer have the patience to do so.

I'm always trying to find ways to introduce young people to the hobby instead of playing video games all the time.

I welcome and questions and/or critiques because I feel they might help me be a better builder.

Welcome to the forum! I also used to build all the old car kits, and a few aircraft, but mostly took different vehicles and chopped, channeled, changed front ends and rear ends , converted to rag-tops etc. etc... and then added all the details I could on the engine and interior. Spray booths out of old card board boxes, and coat-hanger stands, you get the idea! So it sounds like we have a similar background.. Would Love to see some Pix of your work! and Please a Build thread of your next model!
( I also remember collecting coke bottles to pay for my hobby, those days are long gone! )

Thanks. Where do I post them here? I have a Google+ profile with my albums in it but I'll be glad to post here too.

Any models in our Gallery have to have their build threads done on this forum. You can post all your pictures in this thread if you wish. It's one of the best way to Introduce yourself, incidentally. :)

Welcome to Zealot!! :)

Okay, I understand that. I'm kind of new to this "thread" thing. Right now I'm building a Revell LaFerrari kit, what is the process I need to follow? Do I start a thread by stating what I'm building and include pictures then make the album in the gallery?
I'll be starting some paper models soon also so I will follow the same proceedure for that also.

As zathros said, you can post pics of previous builds here in your introduction thread. Just drag and drop them to a post in this thread. If you hit any kind of limits on number of pics, just do another post and keep on going.

If you want to do a build thread, pick a category in the forum and start a thread for the model you are building. Alternative materials has sections for different materials. Check out Mixed Medium for the build threads posted by cylongirl, they are very informative. There is also a plastic section there. In the Card Models section, there is a Model Build Categories section. Within that there are sections for various types of models, e.g. Aircraft and Aviation. You can start a build thread there. Browse around, you'll get the idea. After looking around, feel free exercise your own style of build thread.

We like build threads because the entire community can discuss the build within its own thread. A lot of sharing, teaching, and learning goes on within the build threads, not to mention fellowship in the community.

Give something a try, we're here together on this forum.

Here's my Revell #3 Goodwrench Silver Anniversary Monte Carly driven by Dale Earnhardt Sr. The exterior was painted with Testors silver spray and the interior was Testors gloss red spray. I made the window net from strips of masking tape. I did forget to lower the suspension to give it a more realistic appearance.

Castle D,

I can echo what subnuke has said. We love seeing the "dirty nuts and bolts" of the assembly process. Just start with your first step take a picture and move on. Especially please talk about some of the problems you encounter when building something and how you overcame that problem. We all learn by doing. That's part of the fun.

BTW - I like how your cars have turned out. They look really sharp! Looking forward to when you try your hand at the paper models. I think that you'll find that in construction and modification, paper is pretty good with cost and ease of modification.

Sharing is the thing!

Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

Super nice collection. I can turn you on to some paper car models that will blow your mind. :)
I appreciate that but, I don't like to build the paper model cars because they realistically would need a glossy finish. I haven't had good experiences building cars using glossy photo paper. Here's the one I did build.
Nice Cars...
Thank you Boch'Ra

I will be more than happy to "step-by-step" on my next from the start. Right now I'm in the middle of the Revell LaFerrari (I'll post what I've done so far) and I was waiting for some paint to correct bad call-outs on Revell's part. The paint just arrived the other day so when the weather breaks, It'll be painted and documented.
I'm currently in the process of washing, cleaning up and getting ready for paint 26 kits so when the opportunity arrises, I'll be posting every day.
