Shuttle interiors: where is it from?

I've found this blog page jumping from link to link.

http://spacepapermodels.blogspot.it/2015/03/sts-interior.html

This is definitely a great shuttle paper model (or, at least, a great shuttle cabin paper model).

The blog is polish but the language is not a problem with translators... but, unfortunately, there is no text about where this build came from. The only caption says this is from Marcel... no link no other info: what is the scale? Is the model available somewhere? It's part of a full superdetailed space shuttle model? Nothing.

Anyone knows something more about it?

My name is Marcell (with double-L) and this model was NOT made by me. Jut FYI. :)

However, this is an AMAZING model!!! It reminds me of Ken West's creations. He has designed an Apollo capsule with full interior, and EVERY switch was added individually!

Tonino, in the Yahoo Paper Space Models Group there is a Shuttle model, sorry not complete. It seems to me that the Group model is very similar to that of the blog.
I don't know if you can see the contents without membership, but the model is here.

Best, Nando:)

Thorsten Brand... Somehow this name sounds familiar to me...

unfortunatly this project never came to an end.

We already have some very nice shuttle models available. So if you rescale the interior or use the interior with a rescaled version of Fortezza's or AXM's shuttle(s) I am sure the result would be amazing.

@Nando : Is there a possibility to contact the makers without being at yahoo and ask them for persmission to host the model here (even if it is incomplete; I mean as some sort of add-on to the shuttle models which already exist)?

So now I learned two things: the real name of RF and that he is not involved in that model! :D

It reminds me of Ken West's creations. He has designed an Apollo capsule with full interior, and EVERY switch was added individually!

Unfortunately I know!!! Nando showed me that model and now it's only a matter of time... sooner or later I'll be forced to deal with it!!! There's no escape!!! :sadno:

Tonino, in the Yahoo Paper Space Models Group there is a Shuttle model ...

Yes... Nando!!! I should have imagined that you were the first person to ask about this model!!! And there you are! You are definitely our first Space Authority here!!! :astronaut:

I once signed for a Yahoo account... I must try to recall my login data ... ... obviously to have that model here in the resource section... would be FANTASTIC!!!!

... if you rescale the interior or use the interior with a rescaled version of Fortezza's or AXM's shuttle(s) I am sure the result would be amazing

WOW this place is incredible!!!! It took only few hours to discover the truth behind those photos! And to form an insane project down in the dephts of my insane brain.... ... ...

Oh, you didn't know that before? I've known that for decades..! :D ;)

I've belonged to that forum for quite some time. There is nothing preventing you from using that piece or any other as the author states only "No Commercial Use Allowed". That means it's up for grabs, as long it's for personal use., and can be redistributed by anyone, as no comment was made about that. It must be distributed in whole though, that is the "unwritten" GNU principal.

Here's a link to the files, you must be a member of Yahoo Groups, and join this group to get them. Takes about 5 minutes. Lots of goodies there! :)

You have to join though!!(though this links gets me there , (Hmmm) https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Space-Paper-Models/files/48 Space Shuttle orbiter/

I agree with Zathros about the usability of the files. Thorsten is a master in designing paper model and a very generous guy. In the same period he worked at the Shuttle, he released for free a model of the LZ-45 "L 13" Zeppelin now hosted at Jonathan Leslie site : a very challenging model.

Thorsten is a member at papermodelers forum and, if yiu want, you can PM to him your offering. It is long time that designing thread of the Shuttle is in sleeping mode and the last picture posted of the work in progress in my knowledge is this.

@Tonino, I hope to see another masterpiece in the future. I will be happy to have contributed with this information.
Best, Nando :)

@Nando : Thank you for the info! Now I remember where I have seen this name! His nick is "thorst", he is still an active member there. The last progress report came from 2013. Apparently he suffers from the same things like me (life and other projects; anybody remembering the Colonial Viper and the Aurora? ;) ).

no, he wants it hosted at Yahoo Groups. It takes five minutes to join, you get an acceptance email. Then send me a P.M., and I'll send you a link to the site. It doesn't work unless you're a member

He pointed out to me that the model's dimensions were off in some places. The whole model was created in 2D which is remarkable. He is now learning to use a 3D program which makes work much simpler and much more precise. He really hopes to get back to the project soon and finish the plane. :)

GREAT!!!! This is exactly what I wanted to hear! :D
This will be my next challenge I think... Let's hope he can finish the project.

In the meantime I'm playing with a strange idea: scaling up the upper deck section to doubled size (1:24) and make a stand-alone model with some extra details here and there...
It would be necessary to redraw the panels from the beginning I'm afraid...

I was an enthusiast shuttle pilot in "Space Shuttle Mission 2007" (a great simulator) and would like to find again the cockpit I was used to. So I'll have to convert the instrument panels to the last version, the one with all the square MFDs (multi functional display).

I'm going to ask Thorst the permission to use his model as a starting base to perform the redraw... I'll keep you tuned. ;)

@Revell-Fan : where do I have the best chance to contact Thorst?

Just for the record, the Space Shuttle cannot be copyrighted by anyone. Derivative works cannot be sold. Yes, people make models and sell them, but you are paying for the plastic and shaping, there is no right to the actual shuttle shape, inside or out. You would find that if you looked at blueprints of the shuttle, your interior design would come out very similar to Thorst's. While I do like his interior, let us not set a precedence that something designed in America and used by people's all over the world, paid for by American tax dollars, can be controlled by any individual, and that permission need be asked. This is why you see many P-51 Models from various companies with interchangeable parts. This is because the closer you become to the actual dimensions, the accuracy comes closer to creating a duplicate. Thorst has indicated his work is not used for commercial purposes, that is his only request. I do not see permission needed for this.

Let's not do this again. It sets a bad precedent, especially when the author has already stated not for commercial use. If he were to answer negatively, I would have to laugh at that. I also would reject it's premise. What's he going to say, "No, you can draw the inside of the space shuttle?". He did not create that shape, NASA engineers did. This becomes very silly, my statements, I believe, have reach the "reducto od absurdum" finale. When you get right down to it. Who gave him permission to model the shuttle anyway? This gets silly fast.

Yep, Zathros is correct. Thorst said "No commercial use" and "No upload to another host other than the yahoo group", so you are free to have fun with the model as you like. You don't need his permission to tinker with it; if that hadn't been the case he would have protected it in some way (which he hasn't; it is easily available to anyone). If you do tinker with it, please start a build thread on it. :)

Thanks friends. My concerns was not about copyright issues or other right management...
Simply I feel that, if you take advantage from the work done by others it would be nice to ask before.
I don't want to use the model for any commercial purpose, I don't want to modify it to sell the derived templates and raise money from them. But, when (and IF!!!) my work goes to an end, I would like to share somewhere the results of it (like I did for the Balilla, as an example). In this case Thorst can have something to say. I know that a lot of shuttle drawings are available on the web but, using Thorst's templates as a starting base, my work should be much easier.
So, after all, I think is only a matter of courtesy. (and, by the way, I've just asked him...)

In the worst case my revised cockpit won't be available for anyone other than myself :D

Obviously if the thing is going to happen you will see a full and exhaustive thread on it here!! :)
