My Imcold's X-wing build

My stand design. In fact it is highly inspirated by FineMolds plastic X-wing stand :) . But I was not able to come up with something better. Because, unlike rounded or circle stands, this stand greatly matches with X-wing design style.

I like the stand you are designing. I think that it really compliments the model. I am looking forward to seeing it finished.

Thanks Rhaven Blaack, I am happy it feels to you the same. Seems it works as it should. I appreciate it. :)

You are absolutelly right nero_on_fire :). I looked at stands you can find on the internet for inspiration and finaly I ended up with this. My initial idea was rebel logo as base of a stand and some kind of wire as thin as possible you barrely see it :) not to distract from model, but it did not "clicked" for me visualy, too rounded and smooth. And text on rebel logo kills the interesting shape of it so I discard this idea, but still wanted to incorporate rebel logo in the stand somehow.

Second thaught was to have a chunk of Death Star surface as a base of a stand, but when I see it done i trashed that idea either. It is not bad solution, but it competes with X-wing itself too much and is kind of a distraction with not enough contrast with X-wing, because it has similar colour and greebling structure.

Then I saw stand some FineMolds X-wing builds have and decided to go that way. Boxy tapered base and straight lines of ribs are very coherent with X-wing design and dark colour makes good contrast and does not compete with model.

I am curious, what stand will you invent :). I suppose your UHU X-wing will be standing on the ground. Or will it be flying? Is there some flying UHU X-wing build?

Hah, I had the same idea about the deathstar surface! But when thinking about size and detail, it already gave me an headache, how big should it be and what would be too big? How much detail? And biggest concern is: The UHU X-Wing is with a cutaway look into it, so it doesn't really fit to show it in action.

Second idea was to create an ellevated stand, like a maintenance plattform. Give it some realistic scene to stand in, maybe even some LED lightning. Easier to build, less distraction from the model and more fitting, at least for UHU's X-Wing.

Something like this, but with paper: http://www.modelermagic.com/?p=62188

I like your idea of an elevated stand or maintenance platform.
Here is what I did with the UHU02 Viper that I made. The UHU02 Colonial Viper appreciation thread

Yeah, cutaway X-wing flying woud be strange. Maintenance platform will be great solution. Can't wait :).

As far as stands, I like them when you can't see them. A clear lexan tune, with a base, looking like the ship is flying over something would be awesome too, though I do like the stand above, more than many I have seen. :)

That would not be as hard as you think. Some Tig welding wire, stretched between a post to harden it, mounted to two strong opposing magnets, would give you a model that would act like a wind vane, and float of the magnetic fields. If this was done through the landing gear, the ship would seem to hover. ;)

That is great Rhaven Blaack. How far did you get with this? You have some experience with this?

Yes :), I am using Rhino for a long time and can not praise it enough. Great software.

I have modeled lot of planes and one helicopter for aerospace modelers in Rhino. My friend is aircombat model pilot and he won few titles as best European Aircombat pilot with planes I modeled for him. It is fun to participate in such projects.
