What the name says:

cylonrifle1.jpg

Total length: approximately 94 cm
Materials: Corrugated card, black card & transparent sheet
ETA: very soon (again, a very simple kit)

As you might remember from the Cylon Sword thread, this one has been on my list for quite some time. Since my flat is in a state of disorder (because someone pushed a button and nuked it by accident ;) ) I have taken a shot at the CG model. I hope to be able to conclude work on it tomorrow (yep, it is THAT simple). The only difficult parts are the plates which consist of kit-bashed model kit parts. And since I have some close-ups of these plates - you may have guessed it - I'll have to translate them to the last tiny bit. :sticktongue: :hammerhead: :smoker:

The model will be available at @BazookaJo 's site (I'd like to keep things together ;) ).

CU soon! :)

The original prop was a very crude construction. They took a clear plastic tube and TAPED (!) it to a vac-formed body. The black tape used created the impression that the tube was running through another larger tube with some cutouts. The only "real" cutouts can be found at the bottom of the barrel. I'll try to mimick that look by wrapping black card around the barrel. That makes the build so easy. In theory it should work and I'm really looking forward to the test-build. :)

This is the real prop:

Please note the extensive use of black tape on the barrel and the area right before the shoulder guard!

Another original one (the stunt rifle) but with different detail on the barrel - due to the TAPE-TAPE-TAPE (even on the handle):

I will skip these wrappings around the handle and shoulder guard because it looks sloppy.

And a pic of the kit-bashed plates:

Re-creating these parts will involve heavy laminations.

One of my favorite card model subjects: PROPS!
The original Galactica is from the "low rez" television era when even hero props weren't expected to bare any close scrutiny. Fuzzy TV definition hid a multitude of sins so prop makers could use colored tape and bubble wrap and it would still look acceptable (or at least that was the reasoning). I agree with Zathros; your version of this is actually going to look better than the real prop!

Can't wait to build it!

Thanks R-F!

Yep. That's how John Dykstra designed the visual effects. He doubled or tripled the size of the stars for example because they would have barely been noticable if they had had the size they had on "Star Wars". When he learned that Universal was planning to release the pilot as a feature movie in theatres he was very concerned. He designed the effects for the small screen and not for the big one. That and the decision to skip the telemovie scheme made him leave the production after three episodes ("Saga", "Lost Planet" & "Gun").

@Cybergrinder Keep a cap on it now! Don't be a dum dum! Don't barrel along like you normally do.
Keep the sights on what this thread is all about. You might be a six-shooter, but you're firing blanks!!
And your copper jacket, well, don't wear it in public!

@Revell-Fan Don't worry R-F, I won't let him take things on another trajectory. I'll keep him in the cross-hairs.....
I think some people just run on semi-automatic half the time.
Some people should have a hammer ......... :hammerhead:
But god knows what that might trigger ......

:sticktongue:

I've just came back from our local DIY store.

Asked for a plastic pipe of 40 mm diameter and 50 cm length.

Clerk responded: "Oh, that's a hose. We don't have such."

:violin: :bag: :sour: :vamp: :yuck: :wtf: :realmad:

A "hose". Yes. Just ordered that "hose" on ebay together with a smaller rod for the muzzle. 10.15 € total.
