I hope this helps to clarify, old trackman,
you need to use break-before-make so as to isolate one circuit before connecting the other.

Center off is also a good idea:

The first diagram you show is exactly like the one I found.This thread is almost coming to an end. Thanks for all the replies and the interest everyone showed.

Somebody send me your email addy and I'll send the diagram to you. I can't send it because it won't let me do it.This is a really good diagram about wireing DC and DCC on the same track using a DTDP switch.MY email is ulrich@rushmore.com
