Default Sd60f

In the 80s and early 90s, a new generation of freight cowl units was made. CN was the primary buyer. All of these models share their overall shape, including the "Draper taper" behind the cab. Thus, they are all often confused, despite not all coming from the same manufacturer.

GMD (EMD's Canadian subsidiary) made three models, the SD40-2F, SD50F and SD60F. Unlike all other modern cowls, the SD40-2F did not have the 4-window Canadian cab, but the 3-window cab found on early SD60Ms. The common cab on the other four models does slightly obscure the manufacturers' styles, but they are still evident. The SD50F and SD60F (and the SD40-2F) have exposed fans at the rear, curved fuel tanks and HT-C trucks like 70s and 80s SDs.

There are two main ways to tell an SD60F from an SD50F. From the front, an SD60F has nose numberboards, and an SD50F has cab numberboards. From above, the SD60F's engine compartment is smooth, unlike the SD50F's which has a lengthwise ridge.
