For a long time I've been drooling over JAYO's freebie download of the spaceship LUNA from "Destination Moon". I finally got up the ambition to build one. I printed it out at 60%. The model is a tad over 8" long. I did not tackle the excellent details such as the retractable landing spike.....I just built it in flying mode. One of my all-time favorite ships from one of my all-time favorite movies.

Sure.....You will need to join the smartgroups papermodelers...but that's no biggie. You will also need to join "cache 02" and "cache 04" I think, as they are separate entities...basically model file overflow warehousing.
http://www.smartgroups.com/group/group.cfm?GID=414562 The "LUNA" ship is in "cache 02" files...under MODELS/JAYO. http://www.smartgroups.com/vault/pmc...asc&startrow=1 Also of interest are his TinTin rocketship and Wallace & Grommit rocketship. These are in the "cache 04" group under MODELS/JAYO. http://www.smartgroups.com/vault/pmc...asc&startrow=1 Somewhere in there is also a photo of JAYO's finished "Cosmostrator"...wow! I hope he releases it as a kit soon. |

Vera nice!
Like the movie rocketship collection on your site. Have you seen this page: Moon Rocket "Friede" from the 1929 SF silent film by Fritz Lang http://www.currell.net/models/friede.htm According to one of the comments posted on the Internet Movie Database website about the film, Oberth was helped in the design by his assistants two of whom were Willy Ley and Werner Von Braun. |

If you have an interest in modeling rocketships. I suggest getting one of the remaining available copies of Jack Haggerty& Jon Rogers most excellent book: The Spaceship Handbook"...... http://www.solarguard.com/sglib2.htm It's a huge book of science fact and fiction rockets from the first through the 60's. Very detailed with lots of scaled drawings. Aside from the scale drawings, there are tons of photos, illustrations, and text which gives the history of these like has never before been gathered in one place. For example, it not only details the history of "Freide", but it's companion rocket also....and has scale drawings and photos from the film as well! Plus the stuff Oberth did which lead to the Freide design. The book covers real rockets, hollywood & TV spaceships, etc. Wonderful reference for JAYO's LUNA, TinTin, and Wallace&Grommit rockets, the Delta 7 collection, Mike Hungerford's Rocketship XM, Currel's Friede, converting Currell's V2 into various fiction ships, converting Currell's V1 into MARS1 (like I did). Building the various freebie space progam vehicles that are out there for downloading. In short, it's the best single reference book I have found on modeling rocketships in movies and TV..and real manned rockets. Well worth $59. And soon Jack is releasing his "Saucer Handbook". Similar thing which will give us modeling drawings and histories for things like C57-D, Klaatu's space cruiser, Mike Hungerford's "flying saucer", etc. WJ |
