Default RAF Se5a (ribbed plane)

This is the RAF Se5a as designed by our fellow member Salvador Ortega.
Is a free download from http://www.salvadorortega.webcindario.com/

The kit was originally designed at 1/72 scale, but I enlarged it to my preferred 1/33 scale.

Here we can see the source file together with my references.

(please note that I also added some digital textures and colors)

The first step is to start with part of the fuselage:

After a few careful cuts it looks like this:

Then comes the edge coloring. I made it using a fine tip felt marker:

As you can see I laminated the printed page several times in order to get a more proportional thickness of the wood elements.

Now you can see the work of the basic fuselage frame was completed:

A front image shows that the result is fairly good.

So far, so good.
Hope the rest of the plane is as easy as this frame.

See you soon!

Fairly good! That frame looks "dead on" perfect!

I’m advancing slowly. But still advancing.

These are the parts that will become control stick and pedals.

They were sanded, painted, and glued to look like this:

Other views. Here you can also see the metallic plate under the engine. That was made with a single piece of cardstock that was cut and shaped, and then painted afterwards with silver ink to give a metallic finish.

See you soon!!

I live relatively close to Rhinebeck Aerodrome, which has the oldest flying aircraft in America. They have a Se5a there. They also have a lot of planes in various states of repair and disrepair, and the frames are the color you painted them. The frames look just like that!! Great job!

The link for the download brings up a blank page - looks like a broken link? Is it available anywhere else? I have tried some searches but no luck. Anyone else?

First, the model is a line only template that you choose the appropriate materials for. This is discerned by reading the construction procedure.

Second, click the picture, (the link to the .PDF) under the following phrase:

Para descargar el avión

Para Láser (laser)

Everything is still there. if you can't read Spanish, use Google Translate. I just checked out the website, and it's all there.

Zathros, thanks for the advice, but it was proving impossible to get a page to appear at all! I have worked out that my firewall software believes the site to be a 'dodgy' one and it was refusing to let me even choose to go there. Have worked around that problem now.

Question

niebla de fuego, could I ask what ever happened to this model? Did you ever get it finished?

Another question, if I may, where did you source those 2 cutaway views (both the colour and black-and-white versions)?

It is on standby while some family problems are solved. But I will resume work on this sometime in the future.

The b/w cutaway is from an old magazine which I scanned and enlarged.

The color cutaway is an enlarged drawing by Hubert Cance, who draws some very nice cutaways and technical illustrations. http://www.hubertcance.com/gallery/6.../#.USuOOKzY_Ls
But beware: Mr Cance is not always accurate in some details.

Kind regards.

Tedious. Tenacious. Incredible! I'm very impressed and on the edge of my seat awaiting more to come.
