Default 1:1 Titanic lifevest

Okay. I admit it, I'm hooked on doing 1:1 stuff.

Well, considering that the 100th centennial of the sinking of the Titanic is right around the corner, I obviously have to do something for it (hell, I'm even breaking my usual schedule between ponies and regular paper modeling). I had actually started planning this for about a year now. I'd considered many things, from the ship's reciprocating engines to lifeboat no.6. I didn't want to do the Titanic herself, because a) I'm sure a lot of other people might be doing that, and mostly b) really, who can beat Ralph Currell's Titanic?

So, after some careful thinking, I decided on doing the lifevest. It wasn't too specific or mundane, nor would it be that detached from the accident itself, not just related to the ship.

so, on to the pics:

a sketch of the lifevest that I drew for personal reference:

pages one and two of parts:

More pics to come as I draw up more parts.

I hate to say this, but after around 3 hrs. I would have gathered up a lot of rope, belts, anything that could be tied together and started making a rather large comfortable rafts out of some of those floating dead people. I know it sounds gruesome, but there sure was a lot of stuff floating around! Sounds gross, I know. Don't get stuck on a boat that is taking long to sink with me on board.

Well for some reason, I find the image of some guy chilling on the open ocean (pun semi-intended) on a raft made of human popsicles somewhat-amusing

Also, I have the instructions done now; now I just have to think of what info sheets I should write up to be included.

Hm, does anyone know if the lifevest has any markings on it? I would think so, since a name of the ship may help with ID'ing bodies, and there should probably be a manufacturer's tag around, yes?

All I could find that has even a trace of markings is the Smithsonian's specimen. A friend of mine was kind enough to alter the photo for me:

If anyone has conclusive photos or descriptions, I'd really appreciate it.

Well, just finished everything for the beta build. There are a total of thirteen pages of unique parts, but you'll have to print them out four times, which brings you to a whopping fifty-four sheets!

Well, I don't have any specific software that I use for unfolding and the like - I probably haven't touched a CAD in years - but I do use Inkscape to draw out the parts. As for calculations, I use a Ti-84

I like your work. I don't say that a lot. I think you have an incredible amount of potential. The last van you made for extermination and genocide was an excellent statement. I wish you would have taken it to a higher level though. Instead of a model week, why not change it to an excellent, model, when you're done, so that it fantastically excellent.

Just a suggestion, to some one who is shining bright!
