Default Northwest Lower Michigan

We're going to have a short vacation in the Northwest part of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan -- areas around Tustin, Cadillac, Traverse City. Dates from 13th to 23rd.
Anybody in that area want to meet at a coffee shop or hobby shop for a bit of talk?
Any suggestions for train things to do? I know the Hobby Shop in Traverse City and the Shay in Cadillac. I think the dinner train is off this year; can anyone confirm?
(This trip is likely to be limited by having family around.)
