Let us spend the day watching the trains work at the Mich. Alkali Co.’s limestone kilns 1 and 2.
By morning’s first light we see two open hoppers full of Pennsylvania coal.

At high noon, three loads of limestone arrive from Alpena. The coal and limestone flux with be burned together in these massive ovens.
